Well-known mathematician to speak March 2 at Elon College

ELON COLLEGE – Dr. Keith Devlin, the author of 23 books and a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, will speak March 2 and 3 at Elon College.

His first speech will be given at 7:30 p.m. in the McCrary Theatre in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts at the college. His speech is titled “Geometrics of Animals, Flowers, Art and the Human Body.”

At 12:30 p.m. on Friday in Yeager Recital Hall he will speak on “The Language of God? How mathematics provides the key to the secrets of the universe.”
Both speeches are free and open the public.

Devlin is the dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the College of Saint Mary in California. He is a renowned communicator of science to a lay audience. His research is focused on the development and use of mathematical techniques to study language, communication and information.

The Templeton/American Scientific Affiliation Science and Religion Speakers Program and the college’s Voices of Discovery Science Speaker Series are sponsoring Devlin’s visit.
