ELON COLLEGE, N.C. – The 2001 edition of the Kaplan Newsweek College Catalog names Elon College one of the top ten colleges and universities in the nation for offering a high level of individual academic attention from faculty.
The ranking is based on a nationwide survey of high school guidance counselors who were asked to recommend the best schools in eight categories. The publication recommends Elon along with 79 other colleges and universities in this category for “students who want a high level of personal attention from their instructors.” These schools were selected from more than 1,100 colleges and universities covered in the annual Kaplan Newsweek catalog.
Elon has a student-faculty ratio of 16-to-1. Fifty percent of classes have less than 20 students and less than one percent of classes have more than 40 students.
Other top-ten schools selected for providing individual academic attention from faculty include: Brown University (Rhode Island), Emporia State University (Kansas), Kalamazoo College (Michigan), Kansas State University, Lindenwood College (Missouri), Northern Arizona University, St. Mary’s College (California), Stanford University (California) and University of the Pacific (California).
