AIDS Memorial Quilt panel making session, Feb. 20

A panel making session in anticipation of the April visit of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt will be held from 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20 in room 216 of the Moseley Center, located on the Elon campus. Anyone interested in helping make a panel for the quilt is invited to attend.

The session is the second of four scheduled before the Quilt visits Elon April 26-30, its only appearance in North Carolina this year. The Quilt, which also came to Elon in 1997, memorializes those who have died of AIDS. Over 500 panels from the Quilt, many representing local people who have been affected by AIDS, will be on display in the Koury Center.

The entire Quilt is equivalent to the size of 25 football fields and weighs over 50 tons. It has 42,960 panels and 83,279 names, representing approximately 20 percent of all AIDS deaths in the United States.
