Historian to discuss academic freedom during March 1 lecture

Alan Charles Kors will discuss the importance of academic freedom on college and university campuses during a lecture at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 1 in McCrary Theatre, located on the Elon campus in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts.

Kors is professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania. He has written extensively on issues of academic freedom and is currently the editor-in-chief for Defense of Academic Freedom and Values. Kors is co-author, with attorney Harvey A. Silvergate, of “The Shadow University: Betrayal of Liberty on America’s Campuses.”

The presentation is sponsored by the Liberal Arts Forum and supported by a grant from the Young America’s Foundation.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
