Translator of Anne Frank diary to speak at Elon, April 5

Barbara Mooyaart, the first person to translate Anne Frank’s diary into English, will speak at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5 at the Elon College Community Church.

“The Diary of Anne Frank” was published in The Netherlands in 1947. Mooyaart worked closely with Otto Frank, Anne Frank’s father, to complete the translation to English in 1952. Mooyaart’s translation includes an introduction by Eleanor Roosevelt. Mooyaart will discuss her translation and the subsequent discovery of portions missing from the 1952 edition.

The lecture, sponsored by the Liberal Arts Forum, is free and open to the public.
