Heavy traffic expected Saturday due to Elon College’s graduation

With more than 9,000 people expected to attend commencement exercises at Elon College on Saturday, May 19, traffic in the area is expected to be heavy during most of the day.

The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. under the oaks in front of West Residence Hall on the Elon campus. Traffic will be at its heaviest from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Campus police will have about 35 officers directing traffic and manning intersections. The North Carolina Highway Patrol has been requested to assist with traffic on Interstate 85/40 and U.S. 70. A portion of Lebanon Avenue that is adjacent to the campus will also be closed on Saturday.
