Elon holds 111th Commencement exercises

Elon College awarded a record 856 degrees during its 111th Commencement exercises, held under the oaks on campus May 19.

Mike Jensen, former chief financial correspondent for NBC News, delivered the commencement address. Jensen told the Class of 2001 that success comes from
hard work and persistence.

“A lot of so-called experts talk these days as though a college education is
something you just show up for,” Jensen said. “But you know better. Welcome to
the workforce. You’ll find out you don’t just show up there.”

Jensen also had some advice for the graduates on finding a career. “Find a job you’re good at and a job you love. Finding that intersection is a very tough
proposition.”

Graduates and their families had a chance to celebrate along with Elon faculty and staff at a post-commencement reception on Scott Plaza.
