Jane Deaton, a certified public accountant with more than 20 years of experience in a variety of accounting positions, has been named comptroller at Elon University. She began her duties Dec. 3.
As comptroller, Deaton will direct all accounting functions, including accounts payable, payroll, external and internal audits, institutional budget management and annual financial statements.
“We are fortunate to have attracted someone of Jane’s caliber to Elon,” says Ken Mullen, assistant vice president for business and finance. “Her experience, skills and ability to work with others will have a positive impact on the Elon community.”
Deaton comes to Elon from Glen Raven Yarn Co., in Glen Raven, N.C., where she served as controller since 1997. She had responsibility for all accounting functions, annual business plan preparation and monthly financial reporting. Deaton also worked with Kayser-Roth Corp., in Greensboro, N.C., from 1983-1997 and with Carlyle and Company Jewelers from 1979-1983.
Deaton holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
