Elon faculty promotions approved

The Elon University Board of Trustees approved promotions for 12 faculty members during its March 12-13 meeting.

James Bissett, a member of the history faculty since 1990, was promoted to full professor. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Baptist University, a master’s degree from Western Carolina University and a doctorate from Duke University.

Victoria Fischer, who has been at Elon since 1990, was promoted to full professor of music. Fischer holds a bachelor’s degree from Centenary College and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Janet Warman, a member of the English and education faculty since 1990, was promoted to full professor. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College, a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a master’s degree and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Jonathan Berry, who has been on the faculty since 1996, was promoted to associate professor of computing sciences. Berry holds a bachelor’s degree from American University, and a master’s degree and doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Michael Kingston, a member of the biology department since 1992, was promoted to associate professor. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Southampton College, a master’s degree from the University of California at Irvine, and a doctorate from Duke University.
Yoram Lubling, who has served on the philosophy faculty since 1991, was promoted to associate professor. Lubling holds a bachelor’s degree from Long Island University, a master’s degree from New York University, and a master’s degree and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Douglas Redington, a member of the faculty since 1995, was promoted to associate professor of economics. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University at Bloomington and a doctorate from the University of Wyoming.

Karl Sienerth, who has taught in the chemistry department since 1998, was promoted to associate professor. Sienerth holds a bachelor’s degree from Pfeiffer University and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Carolyn Stuart, a member of the education faculty since 1996, was promoted to associate professor. She holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degrees and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Deborah Thurlow-Long, a member of the faculty since 1996, was promoted to associate professor of education. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Colby College, a master’s degree from Virginia State University and a doctorate from the University of Memphis.

Maureen Vandermaas-Peeler, who has taught in the psychology department since 1995, was promoted to associate professor. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University, and a master’s degree and a doctorate from North Carolina State University.

Jane Wellford, a faculty member since 1976, was promoted to associate professor of performing arts. She holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Andrews Presbyterian College and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
