Elon Percussion Ensemble to perform October 29

The Elon University Percussion Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts on campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of Jon Metzger, the ensemble will perform music written or transcribed for percussion instruments, including the marimba, vibraphone xylophone, timpani, snare drum and cymbals. The performance will include transcriptions of the “Sabre Dance” from the “Gayne Ballet” by Khatchaturian, the “Galloping Comedians” by Kabalevsky and the “Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks” from “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Moussorgsky.

The recital will also include a performance of “Lift Off!” for nine bass drums by Russell Peck, and an arrangement of three African hand-drum pieces, Kuku, Yabara, and Sanja.
