Faculty guitarist to perform October 20

Elon University will host the musical duo “Set Resolution,” featuring faculty guitarist and composer Jimmy Boitnott and fellow musician and composer Scott Chitwood, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts on campus.

The duo’s musical style defies definition, but is influenced by modern, classical, experimental and electronic music. During performances, which include all original pieces, Boitnott plays instruments as diverse as strings, percussion and piano, while Chitwood breaks new ground on the synthesizer.

“Set Resolution” was formed about three years ago, and has performed throughout the country. However, Boitnott, an adjunct instructor of music at Elon, decided it would be good to showcase his work at Elon to introduce people to a musical sound they might be unfamiliar with. “I’ve been wanting to do something like that at Elon, because I don’t think Elon has ever had anything like this,” Boitnott says.
