Ruwart to speak on physician-assisted suicide

Author Mary J. Ruwart, an advocate for physician-assisted suicide, will speak at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24 in Whitley Auditorium on campus.

Ruwart’s younger sister, Martie, assisted her in writing “Healing Our World: The Other Piece of the Puzzle,” which proposes solutions to America’s economic, environmental and societal woes. Suffering from terminal cancer, Martie chose to go to Dr. Jack Kervorkian; Ruwart honored her sister’s choice and stood by her bedside during her final moments. Ruwart says, “Although separated by the chasm that we call death, our partnership continues as I share her story.”

Ruwart’s appearance is sponsored by the Liberal Arts Forum. The forum chooses speakers who address important subjects that appeal to a wide variety of disciplines. The presentation will include a question and answer session immediately following Ruwart’s remarks.
