Pastiche, an ensemble dedicated to the performance of twentieth century music, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon University campus. The performance is free and open to the public.
Founded in 1995, Pastiche performs contemporary chamber music and has been called the only example of its genre. The quartet performs lively interpretations of pieces by various composers from the 1930s through the 1990s, as well as works written especially for the group. Pastiche’s four members exhibit a large degree of instrumental interplay, with music for unusual instrumental combinations as well as standard works.
The quartet includes Fred Sahlmann, piano; David Scott, trumpet; Jan Filmore Scott, clarinet and Dave Walton, percussion. Pastiche is the Ensemble in Residence at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La. It has toured nationally, playing in both concert and educational formats.
