David Noer, former president of Noer Consulting, Inc., in Greensboro, N.C., has been named the first recipient of the Frank S. Holt Jr. Professorship in Business Leadership at Elon University. Named in honor of the former president of Holt Manufacturing Co., now Holt Sublimation Inc., in Burlington, N.C., the professorship honors the vision, leadership and compassion that were trademarks of Frank Holt’s career. Noer will assist Elon’s Love School of Business by strengthening its leadership offering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and developing a leadership program for area business executives.
Noer is a respected author, researcher, speaker and consultant whose work has focused on helping business organizations and individuals cope with a changing business landscape. His consulting practice involves executive coaching, team development and the human aspects of mergers, acquisitions and downsizing.
More than half of Noer’s consulting work takes place outside the United States, primarily in Europe and the Middle East. He has consulted on a wide range of business fields, including health care, technology, government and energy organizational systems.
Noer has an extensive business background. From 1990-1996, he served as senior vice president for education and training at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, one of the nation’s top providers of executive education in leadership. He had primary responsibility for all faculty, revenue, curriculum and strategy at CCL and developed a new research stream related to downsizing.
He served as dean of the Academy of Management at Control Data Corp., in Minneapolis from 1985-1990, where he managed all training and executive development. He developed the academy’s curriculum and selected faculty members. He also held a variety of management positions with Control Data from 1967-1975.
Noer also served as president of Business Advisors, Inc., in Minneapolis from 1981-1985, and was senior vice president of human resources at Commercial Credit Co., in Baltimore from 1975-1985.
Noer received a bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus College, a master’s degree from Pepperdine University and a doctor of business administration degree from George Washington University.
