Campus safety director receives advanced certificate from state

Charles Gantos, director of campus safety and police at Elon University, was awarded the Advanced Certificate by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission at its quarterly meeting on Nov. 15. The certificate is the highest professional certificate awarded to law enforcement and criminal justice officers in North Carolina.

Typically, 700-800 advanced certificates are awarded annually by the state. To qualify, officers must complete a combination of professional training and education, as well as meet minimum service requirements. The commission certifies correctional officers, probation and parole officers, youth services officers and all law enforcement officers, with the exception of sheriff’s deputies. The commission also establishes minimum employment and training standards, training content and instructor standards.
