Street Sounds, an a cappella quintet, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus.
Street Sounds performs traditional, contemporary and original songs that are a combination of blues, jazz, African chants, R&B, doo-wop and civil rights songs. Artistic Director Louise Robison, the group’s leader, is a founding member of Sweet Honey in the Rock, a Grammy Award-winning African American female a cappella ensemble that tours throughout the country.
Street Sounds has appeared with groups and artists like Manhattan Transfer, Wynton Marsalis, Zapp Mama, Ladysmith Black Mambaza, Cassandra Wilson, Pete Seeger and Chic Street Man.
Street Sounds’ performance is sponsored by the Black Cultural Society, the Gospel Choir and the Office of Cultural Programs. Tickets for the performance are $10, or free for those with valid Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased by calling the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open from 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
