Renowned photographer Uelsmann to host reception and talk March 3

The art department will hold a reception to open an exhibit featuring the work of photographer Jerry Uelsmann from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Monday, March 3 in the Isabella Cannon Room, located in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus.

Uelsmann’s images defy conventional expectations that photographs depict and explore everyday reality. His work is constructed in the darkroom where fragments of photographs are seamlessly spliced together to create new interpretations of reality. His work has been exhibited in more than 100 individual shows and is in the collections of national galleries and other prestigious museums around the world. Uelsmann’s work will be on exhibit Feb. 19-March 30.

The reception, which will include remarks by Uelsmann, is free and open to the public. The exhibition is part of the James H. McEwen Jr. Visual Arts Series, named in honor of a former trustee and lifelong supporter of the arts. The series sponsors a number of visual arts exhibits each year, including fiber art, photography, sculpture, watercolors, oil paintings and multimedia abstract compositions.
