Classical guitarist Paul Galbraith in concert March 14

Classical guitarist Paul Galbraith will bring his unique and acclaimed playing style to Elon’s Whitley Auditorium for a concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 14. His recordings have been nominated for a host of awards, and his 1998 double CD of the Complete Solo Bach Violin Sonatas and Partitas on Delo reached the top 10 of Billboard’s classical charts.

At age 17, Galbraith won the silver medal at the Segovia International Guitar Competition. The honor helped launch Galbraith’s international career and earned him appearances with top orchestras throughout Europe, including the Royal Philharmonic, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the BBC Philharmonic.

He toured the United States as a soloist with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and he also tours extensively with the Brazilian Guitar Quartet.

Galbraith uses a unique guitar that has two extra strings and a metal endpin for support, similar to a cello, that rests on a wooden resonance box. The guitar’s design and Galbraith’s playing style are considered groundbreaking developments in the history of guitar, and increase the instrument’s range.

Tickets for the performance are $12 or free for those with valid Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased by calling the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open from 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
