EV! Students recognized at Cheers for Volunteers

About 60 students gathered in The Zone Thursday evening to celebrate their community service accomplishments. Kathy Manning, director of service learning, told the crowd that Elon students have already surpassed the goal of 60,000 hours of service so far this year, and many hours have yet to be tabulated.

Senior Erin Lawless received the Chaplain’s Vision Award, named for Elon Chaplain Richard McBride. Senior Jessica Snow was the winner of the John Barnhill Servant-Leader Award.

Snow said that her four years of work with the Kernodle Center for Service Learning helped her realize that she wants to work with a nonprofit organization after graduation. “I definitely want to do something with volunteers and helping the community,” she said.

Karen Floyd, associate director of residence life and service learning, congratulated the volunteers on their accomplishments. “‘Thank you’ are small words for the things that you do,” she said. “You should be very proud of yourselves and celebrate!”
