John Burbridge, dean of the Love School of Business, and Barth Strempek, associate professor of business administration, were the featured speakers at the Alamance County Area Chamber of Commerce 2003 Business Awards Luncheon, held Thursday, June 5 at the Best Western Inn in Burlington.
Burbridge and Strempek told the audience of approximately 200 business and civic leaders about the innovative Elon Enterprise Academy (EEA). Strempek serves as director of the EEA, which provides real world business opportunities for Elon students.
Students in the program have the opportunity to start their own business initiatives. The program began in 1997, as students developed a jazz CD recording label and produced a music CD with Jon Metzger, a vibraphonist and member of the Elon faculty.
Strempek told the audience about several new projects the EEA has started, including another jazz CD to be produced by the ImproVibes recording label; a book publishing press; a campus events planning group and a marketing services group.
Strempek also introduced several people associated with the EEA who attended the luncheon, including Rob Sims, instructor in business administration; Cindy Biles, EEA program administrator; and students Erika Larson and Milica Milosavljevic, who have both been active EEA participants.
