Almost half of Elon faculty and staff made contributions to the university during the 2002-03 fiscal year, falling just short of a goal of 50 percent participation but raising a record $227,175. Details...
Forty-six percent of Elon’s full-time faculty and staff made gifts to the university, says Jerry Tolley, director of annual giving. “Compared to 40 percent participation and $147,274 raised the previous year, we made great strides,” Tolley said. “However, we would still like to reach 50 percent participation, and that will be our main goal for the campaign in 2003-04.”
Gifts to the faculty/staff campaign, which was chaired in 2002-03 by Janie Brown and Pam Brumbaugh, are used in a number of important ways, including support for faculty salaries, student scholarships and general operating expenses.
Seventy-two people joined the Elon Society during the previous year, which has a minimum giving level of $1,500. Nine gifts were received at the Leadership Circle level of $2,500, and two President’s Circle gifts of at least $5,000 were received and designated for unrestricted use. In addition, a single gift of $50,000 was made during the campaign. The Order of the Oak added three new faculty/staff members, giving the university a total of 15 who have included Elon in their estate plans.
“Even with that single generous gift, we were about $30,000 ahead of last year’s campaign,” Tolley said. “Still, we would like to have more involvement by a higher percentage of faculty and staff. Even a small gift will help us reach our goal and demonstrates the strong commitment each of us has to Elon and its students.”
Brown and Brumbaugh, co-chairs of the 2002-2003 faculty/staff campaign, said, “we were so pleased with the generosity of the Elon community that we have agreed to serve again in 2003-2004!”
