A new exhibit at the Graham Historical Museum in Graham, N.C., will include Miss America pageant memorabilia from Elon trustee Jeanne Swanner Robertson, a Graham native who won Miss North Carolina in 1963. Details...
“Behind Her All the Way: Graham’s Miss North Carolina-The Jeanne Swanner Exhibit” will open Sunday, July 13, exactly 40 years to the day since Robertson was crowned Miss North Carolina. She went on to represent the state at the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, NJ, earning Miss Congeniality honors.
The exhibit is a tribute to the people of Graham and their support of Swanner as she advanced to the Miss America pageant. Gowns, crowns, photographs and the ukulele she played for the talent competition are among the items on display. It will also include detailed accounts of the more than 500 public appearances she made in the year she reigned as Miss North Carolina.
The exhibit will be open to the public from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, July 13 at the Graham Historical Museum, located at 135 W. Elm St. There is no admission charge.
