Institutional priorities in support of the NewCentury@Elon strategic plan:
NewCentury@Elon goal 1: Enhance academic excellence
1. Support a successful AACSB International accreditation visit in 2004 to insure that the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business gains accreditation
2. Continue Phi Beta Kappa initiative
- Submit application in October 2003
- Begin implementing Phi Beta Kappa Committee action plan
- Work to increase to 47-50 % the percentage of students majoring in arts and sciences
- Implement and assess Honors Fellows and Elon College Fellows programs
- Hire an associate director for the Honors Program who will develop a plan to increase the number of arts and sciences students entering graduate school and coordinate applications for graduate scholarships and fellowships
3. Increase the Belk Library book collection to a total of 300,000 volumes in 7-10 years
- Work with academic departments during their 5-year external reviews to update and build the collection in their disciplines
- Develop funding plan
- Plan for additional off-site book storage
4. Promote students’ understanding of and commitment to the academic honor code
- Conduct external assessment of issues related to academic integrity
- Establish rituals to promote adherence to academic and social honor codes
5. Enhance campus diversity as proposed in the SACS Self-Study Focus Report “Wholeness of the Campus”
- Implement aspects of the Internationalizing the Campus report
- Recruit additional minority and international students
- Attract and hire additional minority faculty and staff
- Develop diversity education plans for faculty, staff, and students
6. Enroll 1200 academically qualified freshmen with an average SAT of at least 1165
7. Enroll new students in each of the Elon graduate programs
- MBA: 50 (3-year goal: 60)
- MEd: 26 (3-year goal: 30)
- DPT: 30 (3-year goal: 36)
8. Discuss and respond to the recommendations of the School of Law feasibility task force and present the report to the Board of Trustees for their decision

9. Develop a new three-year technology plan
10. Conduct a feasibility study concerning future development of the fire station fields as retail commercial space
11. Plan for/construct academic facilities
- Construct political science pavilion in Academic Village
- Complete plan for the next Academic Village pavilion, the Teaching-Learning Center
- Complete Koury Business Center construction drawings
12. Determine and report to the Board of Trustees on the budgetary impact of anticipated capital renewals and replacements required within the next ten years

13. Maintain institutional support in the $6 million range, including raising at least $3.5 million in cash for capital and endowment purposes and $1.175 million in annual gifts
14. Complete the silent phase of the campaign for the Koury Business Center, plan for the public phase
15. Secure two naming gifts for the Academic Village

16. Enhance/improve Career Services, using self-study and external review findings
17. Plan an expanded club sports program
18. Plan for/implement student facility improvements
- Complete phase I of the card access door security project
- Plan for a recreational sports complex on the former Elon Homes property, including playing fields and a marching band field
- Complete phase I of residence halls heating/air conditioning project
- Create student meeting space in Harden Dining Hall
- Renovate student offices in Moseley (SGA office, Kernodle Center for Service Learning)
19. Renovate 1st floor McEwen for two new dining concepts: sushi bar and sports-themed restaurant
20. Introduce new E-services
- Improve on-line billing
- Introduce on-line credit and debit card gifts and payments
- Introduce on-line auto registration
- Plan for on-line housing requests and assignments
- Offer on-line Print Services access
- Investigate Web portal
- Offer on-line textbook ordering and prepackaging
National (and local) recognition
21. Familiarize all Elon constituents with the Southern Conference and plan and promote special game-day experiences for various groups
22. Continue promoting Elon and its academic programs in national venues
23. Promote Elon University to local and regional constituents
