Workers transplanted three oak trees Thursday, Aug. 14 to prepare the site for the third pavilion in the Academic Village on the east side of campus. Details...
A crew from Trees, Etc., of Durham, N.C., moved the trees, which are approximately 10 years old, from the site where the third Academic Pavilion will be built. The workers moved two trees to the grassy mall between the Isabella Cannon International Studies Pavilion and the William R. Kenan, Jr., Honors Pavilion. The third tree was moved to a location near Holland House, which houses the institutional advancement office.
Using machinery, workers dug holes approximately 4 feet deep and 7 feet in diameter to receive the transplanted trees. The trees were carefully uprooted to cause minimal damage to their root systems. With water and careful attention, the transplanted trees should thrive in their new locations.
Groundbreaking for the third pavilion is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 26 at the first College Coffee of the new academic year. The pavilion will house the political science department and the Elon University Polling Center.
