Renovated TV studio opens in McEwen

TV studio A in McEwen Communications building was completely renovated during the summer, and the finished product was on display for the Elon community during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 20.

The 1,200-square-foot studio features a new set built by Beaver Construction Co., of Graham, N.C., as well as faculty, staff and students from Elon Television Services, ESTV and the School of Communications.

The new set, built in just four weeks and made primarily of birch plywood, will allow Elon students to learn in a state-of-the-art environment. The studio includes an interview set, a news set, a weather set and all new lighting.

Linda Lashendock, coordinator of television services, said the set is designed to accommodate live television transmissions to Time Warner Cable and other broadcast outlets. Lashendock also hopes to convert the studio from its current analog format to a digital format, to meet current industry standards, in the near future.
