Author Broughton Coburn will lecture at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. Coburn’s illustrated lecture will examine “Aama’s Journey: A Pilgrimage Between Continents and Cultures,” based on his experiences in a Himalayan village.
During his visit, Coburn became immersed in the philosophy of Aama, who had no exposure to Western civilization. When Aama turned 84, she departed on a thought-provoking, 12,000-mile odyssey to the U.S. Coburn chronicles Aama’s visit to America and shares his own thoughts and perspectives on what he learned from her.
In 1997, Coburn was awarded the American Alpine Club’s Literary Achievement Award for his body of work. His third book, “Everest: Mountain Without Mercy,” reached #17 on the New York Times Bestseller list and was selected as “Pick” for 1997 by Publisher’s Weekly. It has sold over 350,000 copies.
Sponsored by the Liberal Arts Forum, this event is free and open to the public.
