Pianist Steven Mayer will perform at Whitley Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9 in Whitley Auditorium, located on the Elon University campus. The concert is part of the Adams Foundation Piano Recital Series, sponsored by Elon University and the Times-News Publishing Co.
Mayer performs works by Mozart, Schumann, Ives and Bernstein. Mayer takes his audience on a journey through the 1930s and 1940s with his repertoire, featuring jazz legends Art Tatum and Fats Walker. Mayer is currently working on a recording of the complete works of Charles Ives. The New York Times has described his performances as “piano playing at its most awesome.”
Mayer won the third Carnegie Hall International Piano Competition and has performed with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in the American Roots Festival. He has recorded four albums with symphony orchestras from London, Budapest, and Sydney.
Tickets for the performance are $15 or free with Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased at the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open from 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
