Elon Campus Recreation hosted the 2003 National Intramural Recreation Sports Association’s North Carolina state workshop on Friday, Sept. 26. The NIRSA is a non-profit organization which serves as the national network for recreation professionals. The organization selected Elon as the host of the annual workshop in September 2002.
Fifteen institutions attended this year’s conference. UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Asheville, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Charlotte, N.C. State, East Carolina, UNC-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina Central University were among the universities that were represented at the workshop. Other institutions such as the Triangle YMCA, Duke Center for Leaving, and the Burlington Indians sent representatives as well. Katie Sherman, campus recreation special program team leader and NIRSA North Carolina student representative, was among the 27 students members in attendance.
Elon President Leo M. Lambert attended the opening session and welcomed NIRSA guests, providing information on Elon campus recreation,and future development. Business discussed at the workshop included information on recreational trends, professional development, and student development in internships, graduate assistant positions, and networking.
