The Baltimore Consort, a musical group specializing in popular music from the 16th-18th centuries, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4 in Whitley Auditorium.
This award-winning group will include folk songs collected at Elon by Fletcher Collins, who taught English from 1936-1942. Collins is credited by musicologists and historians with preserving significant folk songs that would have otherwise been lost. Collins published a collection of these songs titled “Alamance Play-Party Songs and Singing Games” in 1940. His original recordings are housed in the Library of Congress and many have been transferred to CDs.
The Baltimore Consort consists of Ronn McFarland (lute), Mindy Rosenfeld (wooden flutes and pennywhistle), Mary Anne Ballard (viols and rebec), along with soprano Custer LaRue.
Tickets for the performance at $12 or free with valid Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased by calling the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open from 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
