Professor receives Cottrell College Science Award

Joel Karty, assistant professor of chemistry, has won the Cottrell College Science Award granted by Research Corporation.

Karty received $34,200, which will help fund his research on resonance and inductive contributions to fundamental chemical systems. This research studies the effects of resonance and induction on the acidity of carbonyl-containing species, hydrogen bonding, and Y-aromaticity.

Earlier this year, Karty received an American Chemical Society grant for his research to elucidate the mechanism of pattern formation in periodic precipitation reactions.
