Charles E. “Chuck” Davis has been named director of major gifts at Elon University. Davis joins Elon after three years at East Carolina University, where he most recently served as interim president of the Medical Foundation of ECU. Previously, he served as director of development for the Brody School of Medicine at ECU.
At Elon, Davis will work to increase Elon’s endowment and raise funds for future building and capital projects. He will work closely with Trey Stewart, director of the Elon Athletics Foundation, and Anne Wright, director of parent giving, to cultivate new gifts.
At ECU, Davis nearly tripled the number of donors for the school of medicine, and the average alumni gift size increased more than 100 percent. He also wrote and presented, with school of medicine leadership, the first proposal to the newly established BlueCross BlueShield Foundation, resulting in a $1 million gift to support indigent care at the school of medicine.
Davis worked as a territory sales manager for Colgate Oral Pharmaceutical Co. from 1989 to 1993. He was named director of development at the Chatham County Council of Aging in 1993, where he successfully completed the agency’s $850,000 capital campaign for construction of a senior center before leaving in 1996 to become director of development for Prevent Blindness North Carolina in Raleigh.
Davis was director of development and outreach for the graduate school at N.C. State University from 1997-2000. During his tenure, he doubled the amount of funds raised in his first fiscal year and completed the graduate school’s $3.2 million campaign goal.
Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Furman University.
