The Florida Marlins, managed by Jack McKeon '63, won the World Series Saturday, Oct. 25. The Marlins clinched the series with a 2-0 win over the New York Yankees in the decisive Game 6 at Yankee Stadium. Details...
McKeon, 72, became the oldest manager to win a World Series. Named manager in May, he orchestrated Florida’s remarkable turnaround from a 16-22 start, guiding the Marlins to a wild card playoff berth. The Marlins defeated the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs to reach the World Series.
A former manager in Kansas City, Oakland, San Diego and Cincinnati, McKeon had never made the playoffs on the major league level until this season.
The fall issue of The Magazine of Elon will feature a story on McKeon and his dramatic run to the World Series championship. The magazine will be published immediately following the World Series.
