McKeon, who lives in Elon, was named manager of the Marlins in May. He orchestrated the club’s remarkable turnaround from a 16-22 start, guiding the Marlins to a wild card playoff berth. Florida needs one more win to capture the series, with game 6 scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 in New York. If necessary, game 7 would be played Sunday night in New York.

McKeon, 72, becomes the oldest manager in major league history to reach the playoffs. A former manager in Kansas City, Oakland, San Diego and Cincinnati, McKeon had never made the playoffs on the major league level until this season.

The fall issue of The Magazine of Elon will feature a story on McKeon and his dramatic run to the World Series. The magazine will be published immediately following the World Series.
