McKeon, who lives in Elon, was named manager of the Marlins in May. He orchestrated the club’s remarkable turnaround from a 16-22 start, guiding the Marlins to a wild card playoff berth. Florida needs one more win to capture the series, with game 6 scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 in New York. If necessary, game 7 would be played Sunday night in New York.
McKeon, 72, becomes the oldest manager in major league history to reach the playoffs. A former manager in Kansas City, Oakland, San Diego and Cincinnati, McKeon had never made the playoffs on the major league level until this season.
