Matt Green, an acting and communications double major from Spartanburg, S.C., landed a small acting part in the recently released movie “Radio.”
Green was one of about 20 actors who were featured extras in the movie and appeared in all of the classroom scenes. Green’s character sat next to Cuba Gooding Jr., who plays the part of Radio, a mentally challenged man who develops a bond with a South Carolina high school and its football coach, played by Ed Harris.
Green, who has been involved in acting and professional theatre since he was a young child, says he enjoyed being on the set of the movie.
“I realized it takes a long time to make a movie,” says Green, who has also played the part of a gang member in “Bourbon Cowboy,” an independent film made in Charleston, S.C. “We shot scenes that were only 5 minutes long in the film, but it took 2 days to shoot them. We had to shoot every scene from 10 different angles, so (editing) cuts can be made.”
Interacting with the other actors on the set was an experience Green won’t forget. “They are all very talented actors and workers. Cuba is such a people person. I wouldn’t have traded it for anything. It was an awesome experience, and now I know how the movies really work.”
