The teams had one hour to prepare a meal using basic ingredients in each portion. The chefs were required to use leeks in the appetizer or soup; seaweed in the salad; sea bass for the entree; and oranges in the dessert. The teams were also required to incorporate two mystery ingredients, caviar and juniper berries, into at least one course; these ingredients were not unveiled until the competition began.

The competition was based on the popular Food Network television show “Iron Chef.” A panel of five judges, including representatives from Elon and Wake Forest, selected winners for each portion of the meal. Total scores were added together to determine the overall winners.
