Pianist Ann Schein will perform at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24 in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon University campus. Schein’s performance, sponsored by the Times-News of Burlington, is part of the Adams Foundation Piano Recital Series.
Schein made her professional debut in 1957 at the age of 17 and debuted at Carnegie Hall in 1962. Throughout the 1980 season, she presented the complete major Chopin repertoire in Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, marking the first time in 35 years the entire Chopin cycle played New York City.
She has performed with prominent conductors George Szell, Alfred Wallenstein, James Lhevine, Seiji Ozawa and David Zinman with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland and Philadelphia Orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Baltimore Symphony.
Recently, Schein has performed with the Portland Symphony and the Jupiter Symphony in New York City, where she performed the fourth and fifth Beethoven concertos. She spent 20 years as a member of the piano faculty at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore before her current post as an artist-faculty member of the Aspen Music Festival.
