Art faculty member to discuss 16th century art, Feb. 26

Elon art instructor Kristin Lanzoni will explore the work of Late Renaissance sculptor and art collector Alessandro Vittoria and others during a presentation titled “Piety and Patronage: Altarpieces for the Scuole delle Arti,” at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Center for the Arts on campus.

Lanzoni will discuss her dissertation research into Venetian trade guilds and their elaborate altarpiece commissions at the end of the 16th century. She will explore the ways in which leading artists such as Vittoria capitalized on the opportunity to transform religious art in Venice.

Lanzoni’s presentation, part of the Art History at Elon Speaker Series, is free and open to the public.
