Cuban-American writer to discuss cultural identity tonight, Feb. 26

Award-winning author Christina Garcia will speak at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26 in McCrary Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. Her lecture, titled “Cuban-American Identity,” will focus on her writing and explore the complexities of dual cultural identity and the immigrant experience.

Garcia is the author of “Dreaming in Cuban” as well as the acclaimed “The Aguero Sisters” and “Monkey Hunting.” A former Time magazine correspondent and Miami bureau chief, Garcia left Havana with her family when she was two and grew up in New York City. She has been a Guggenheim Fellow, a fellow at Princeton University and the recipient of a Whiting Writers Award.
