More than 130 participants from 26 organizations in the Carolinas and Virginia have registered for the sixth-annual North Carolina Campus Compact Service-Learning Conference, scheduled from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 3 in Moseley Center on the Elon University campus.
The conference is for faculty and staff who are involved in service-learning initiatives on their campuses, giving them an opportunity to share and learn information to enhance service-learning courses and programs.
Barbara Jacoby, director of the office of community service-learning at the University of Maryland, College Park, will deliver the keynote address. She is the author of four books, including two on service-learning, including “Building Partnerships for Service-Learning,” which was published in February 2003.
Throughout the day, speakers and presenters from other campuses and organizations will make presentations about their experience with service-learning and ways to enhance those efforts.
North Carolina Campus Compact, a rapidly growing coalition of 21 college and university presidents, was established to encourage and support campus engagement in the community.
