Lubin to discuss JFK, assassination, March 18

David Lubin, the Charlotte C. Weber Professor of art at Wake Forest University, will discuss his new book on John F. Kennedy, his family and 1963 assassination during a presentation at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 18 in Yeager Recital Hall, located in the Center for the Arts on the Elon University campus. Lubin’s appearance is part of the Art History at Elon Speaker Series. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Lubin’s new book, “Shooting Kennedy,” examines the photographic portrayal of John and Jackie Kennedy from their public courtship in 1953 to the events in Dallas ten years later. He will discuss images of the Kennedy family and the Kennedy assassination from the contexts of art historical tradition and American popular culture.

A Wake Forest faculty member since 1999, Lubin holds a bachelor’s degree in film making from the University of Southern California and a doctorate in American Studies from Yale University. Lubin has written many books, including “Act of Portrayal,” “Picturing a Nation,” and “Titanic,” an analysis of the blockbuster movie by the same title.
