Middle schoolers to visit campus, April 1

Almost 140 middle school students from North Carolina will be on campus Thursday, April 1 for GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) Day.

The state-sponsored program is designed to introduce middle school students to the excitement of learning on a university campus.

Students will tour campus, meet with admissions counselors, eat lunch on campus and take part in an exciting chemistry presentation by Karl Sienerth, associate professor of chemistry.

A video crew will accompany the group to shoot footage for a UNC-TV news story, scheduled to run at an undetermined date in the future, about the GEAR UP program.
