Alan Russell, assistant professor of mathematics, wrote the cover story for the May 2004 edition of Mathematics Teacher magazine.
The article, which features photography by Jerome Sturm, university relations, discusses Pick’s theorem, which relates the area of a convex figure using the area of the figure and the number of the figure’s interior and perimeter points. Pick’s theorem gives the equation for the area as A =I +(1/2)P -1.
Mathematics Teacher magazine is published by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
