Representatives from Elon’s student media organizations gathered for their annual banquet Monday, May 10, celebrating a successful year of covering campus news and events.
More than 50 students, faculty and staff attended the banquet, which included representatives from Colonnades, ESTV, Phi Psi Cli, The Pendulum and WSOE.
The evening’s featured speaker was Robert Franek, publisher and editorial director of The Princeton Review. Franek discussed his career, first on the admissions staff at Wagner College and now with The Princeton Review.
More than 1.3 million prospective college students read the publication each year as they try to decide which school to attend. “I am two things to most people in college admissions,” Franek said. “I am either the most hated person in the world, or the most loved,” because of what he writes about colleges.
Franek encouraged students to take full advantage of their education and their ideas when they enter the workforce.
“If you’re smart and if you’re driven, then you’re always going to be successful,” Franek said.
Franek was joined on the visit to campus by his Princeton Review colleagues James LeVoci and Matt Doherty. They met with administrators, had a campus tour and made a presentation on Web site design and development for a digital media course taught by communications faculty member Vic Costello.
