Six Elon University faculty members have been named Service Learning Faculty Scholars for the 2004-05 academic year, a new program designed to incorporate the ideals of community service into academic courses. Service Learning Faculty Scholars will attend a series of seminars to learn about and discuss the use of service learning in their courses. They will design a course syllabus which includes a service learning component and will teach the course during the spring 2005 semester.
The faculty members chosen are:

- Vic Costello, Communications
- Glenda Crawford, Education
- Janet Myers, English
- Janice Richardson, Education
- Hal Walker, Leisure
Service learning incorporates volunteer and community service opportunities into course curriculum. Faculty selected for the program receive a cash stipend and agree to serve as mentors to future service learning scholars.
