Brannon Dellinger, a psychology major who graduated from Elon University May 22, has received a 2004-2005 Award of Excellence from Phi Kappa Phi, one of the nation’s oldest and most distinguished national honor societies. Dellinger, of Denver, N.C., will receive $2,000 toward her graduate studies in social work at the University of Louisville.
Dellinger worked closely with Duane McClearn, associate professor of psychology, conducting research on the association of undesirable personality traits with psychological disorders. She submitted two presentations from her research to the Southeastern Psychological Association conference, held this spring. Dellinger also worked as an intern in the behavioral medicine unit at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, strengthening her desire to work with mental illness patients.
Phi Kappa Phi awards 40 Awards of Excellence each year, in addition to 60 graduate fellowships worth $5,000 each. Recipients are chosen based on undergraduate academic performance, leadership and service, evidence of graduate school potential, and academic and character references.
