Elon's #1 singles and doubles player in men's tennis joins fellow student-athletes from football and baseball squads on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Details...
Men’s tennis player Pramote Malasitt, a junior from Bangkok, Thailand, was named to the 2004 College Sports Information Directors of America University Division Academic All-District III Men’s At-Large Team Thursday, May 27. Earlier this year, football player Brandon Mason and baseball player Gary Morris earned spots on the district academic team.
On the tennis court this year, Malasitt turned in a 10-6 record at No. 1 singles and a 13-3 ledger at No. 1 doubles on his way to earning First Team All-Southern Conference honors in both singles and doubles. At the 30th Annual Elon Athletics Awards Banquet held earlier this month, he received team MVP accolades as well as both the Robert C. Browne Memorial Sportsmanship Award and the A.L. Hook Scholar-Athlete Award.
In the classroom, the computer science major has fashioned a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average while also completing medical school requirements. Malasitt has collected four 4.0 semesters and made five President’s List appearances and one Dean’s List appearance during his six semesters at Elon. He is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Societies and was named a TIAA-CREF/SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week last month.
A three-time First Team All-Conference selection in both singles and doubles and a two-time Academic All-Conference choice, Malasitt has forged a 35-21 career singles record (.625) and a 43-13 career doubles slate (.768). He also represents his team on the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council and will be attending the Southern Conference Student-Athlete Leadership Institute this summer.
The District III university division consists of all NCAA Division I institutions in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The men’s at-large squad is made up of student-athletes from 12 sports – Fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Malasitt – the 11th Phoenix athlete to earn Academic All-District distinction in Elon’s five-year tenure in the university division – is now eligible for consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be announced June 15.
