Bill Rich, dean of international programs and director of the Isabella Cannon Centre at Elon University, was recognized recently for his contributions to the field of international study and education.
Rich received the International Excellence Award for Region VII of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, during the group’s meeting in Baltimore May 26. Region VII comprises the southeastern U.S., including North Carolina.
A graduate of Wake Forest University, Rich came to Elon in 1977 as an assistant professor in the religion department. He became director of Elon’s Winter Term study abroad program in 1983, which sent five faculty members and about 75 students to London that year. Under Rich’s leadership, the program has grown significantly. During Winter Term 2004, 50 faculty members led more than 600 students enrolled in study abroad courses.
Rich has also served as director of Elon’s General Studies program, associate dean of social sciences and associate dean of academic affairs. He plans to retire in December.
