The Golf Coaches Association of America recently named Ryan Loucks to its 2004 GCAA/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar squad. The honor marks the third in as many years for Loucks and the 11th such accolade earned by an Elon golfer.
The team consists of 82 NCAA Division I student-athletes. To qualify for the award, nominees must have played in at least 70 percent of their team’s competitive rounds while maintaining both a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and a sub-76.0 scoring average.
Loucks, a double major in business administration and accounting with a minor in economics, graduated from Elon last month. The Little Silver, N.J., native had a 3.39 cumulative GPA while appearing on the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll seven times, the Dean’s List four times and the President’s List twice.
This past season, Loucks earned both First Team All-Southern Conference and Academic All-Southern Conference recognition. It marked the third consecutive year in which he registered both all-conference and academic all-conference accolades. He played in all 12 of Elon’s tournaments last year, logging a team-best 73.75 scoring average for 32 rounds while collecting 11 top-25 finishes, including six top-10 places and four in the top-five.
Loucks helped the Phoenix to five top-five tournament finishes during the 2003-04 campaign. At Elon’s annual athletics awards banquet last month, he received his team’s most valuable player award for the second time in three years.
