Students earn first Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees

Eighteen students earned degrees Sunday, June 20, becoming the first graduates to receive Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees as part of Elon's transitional DPT program. Details...

The transitional DPT program was developed when Elon’s physical therapy program recently began awarding doctoral degrees, the new national standard for the profession. Previously, Elon physical therapy students had earned master’s degrees (MPT).

A 6-month program, the transitional DPT curriculum is delivered primarily online, with additional coursework beyond the MPT degree requirements to qualify students for the DPT degree.

The ceremony included brief remarks from Elon President Leo M. Lambert and Elizabeth Rogers, associate dean of physical therapy.
