Fulkerson named assistant vice president for technology

Gerald Whittington, vice president for business, finance and technology at Elon University, has announced the promotion of Chris Fulkerson to assistant vice president for technology. Fulkerson, who has been at Elon more than 22 years, has been serving as director of instructional and campus technologies.

Fulkerson manages 15 different technology-related departments and programs related to instructional technology, media services and television services; computer support; and information systems, data networks and telecommunications.

“Under Chris’ leadership, our technology units have gained significant national recognition for the quality of service and technological capabilities offered to our students, faculty and staff,” Whittington said.

Fulkerson came to Elon as a media technician in 1982 and was associate director of the Learning Resources Center from 1990 to 1997. He was also interim director of the library for two years and directed Elon’s professional development program for four years. In 2000, he was named director of instructional and campus technologies in a move that consolidated supervision of the many technology services and systems on the Elon campus.

Fulkerson holds the rank of assistant professor of communications. He has a bachelor’s degree from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y., a master’s degree in film and video production from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and has done doctoral studies in higher education at Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
